The Black Market in Forever
A vendor who takes gold and gives back something you cannot farm is the most interesting thing to happen to this economy since the GDKP ban. One exists on the beta. Rather less of what is being said about him survives a look at the files.
What is actually there
An NPC titled Agent of the Black Market stands in Riverglades. His name is Mister Graphed, and the game files list exactly one thing on his counter.
| Item | Price | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gift of Galloping | 150g | +10% mounted speed, stacking with every other speed bonus | 360 hrs |
That is 15 days. The item requires level 60 and the beta caps at 30, so nobody has bought one yet — it exists in the files, not in anyone's bags.
Why a consumable matters more than a mount would
A black market that auctions trophies moves gold between players. A vendor with unlimited stock and a fixed price does something else: it takes gold out of the world and does not give it to anyone. That is a sink, and Forever has almost none — no Token, no paid boosts, riding training and repairs and little else.
A sink that renews every fortnight is a different animal from one you pay once. Riding already had the largest one-off bill in the game; this puts a subscription next to it, for anyone who wants to be the fastest thing on the road.
What is being said, and does not check out yet
The interesting claim — the one that would change how this whole economy works — is that the same agent sells rare crafting reagents without limit: black lotus and arcane crystal at 50 gold each. If that were true it would put a hard ceiling over the herb market, because nobody would pay an auction house more than a vendor charges.
We could not confirm it
The vendor's own entry in the game database lists one item, and it is not a reagent. Black lotus lists no vendor at all — it drops in Molten Core and off a rare in Feralas, and that is the whole of it. The claim comes from a video and from players posting on the official forum, not from Blizzard and not from the files.
It may yet be true and simply not datamined. We are re-reading the vendor's stock every day and will write the section the moment it appears. We are not going to print a price we cannot find.
Worth saying plainly why we are being slow about it: unlimited black lotus at 50 gold would gut the herb trade. In the original Classic the same flower changed hands for hundreds. A claim that large is exactly the sort that turns out to be a beta placeholder, and we would rather be 3 days late than wrong in a way that costs a reader money.
