What Riding Costs in WoW Forever

Until this week nobody could answer this, and half the internet was quoting a price list from 2004. Blizzard has now given the numbers, so here they are with the parts that are still missing.

Dollar figures are the cheapest rate on our board right now, $0.66 per gold on PvP, read September 20, 2026. They move daily and are shown to give the gold a sense of scale, not as an offer — nothing is on sale here until November 4, 2026.

What changed from the original game

In 2004 you paid twice: a trainer taught you to ride, then a vendor sold you the animal, and the two bills together were the wall everyone remembers at level 40. Forever folds them into one. You pay the trainer, you walk out with a mount.

What has not been said

Which levels the two tiers unlock at. Every previous version put them at 40 and 60, and that is the sensible guess — but a guess is what it is, and we will put the real numbers here the day they exist rather than dress the guess up as fact.

Why the number is designed, not accidental

Blizzard said two things about this in the same breath: that an expensive mount is an aspirational goal for your money, and that the game needs gold sinks. Both are worth reading carefully if you care about what gold will be worth in this game.

A sink removes currency from the world permanently. A trade between players does not — it moves the same coin from one bag to another. An economy with plenty of trading and no sinks inflates; one with real sinks holds its value. Forever has no WoW Token minting gold on demand, and it has a thousand-gold sink sitting at the end of every character's first serious savings run.

That combination is why gold here is priced the way it is, and why we expect it to stay expensive relative to every other version of the game. The economy piece works through the rest of it: what creates gold, what destroys it, and what the December raid patch does to demand.

So should you farm it or buy it?

Farm it, in most cases — here is how. A thousand gold at 60 is weeks of ordinary play, and the whole design of Forever — new zones, 600-plus recipes, professions that finally pay — is built to make those weeks worth playing rather than worth skipping.

Buying it is the shortcut, and we are the last people who will pretend it is free of consequence: Blizzard said on September 17 that it intends to come down harder on gold buyers in Forever than it has before, with permanent bans implied. If you buy anyway, buy late rather than early — launch week is the worst exchange rate of the year, and the market has already fallen every day this month.

Questions

How much does riding cost in WoW Forever?

Training costs 100 gold at the first tier and 1,000 gold at the top one, and the mount itself comes with it — you are not buying the animal separately the way you did in 2004.

Blizzard gave those two numbers in a Sportskeeda interview on September 18, 2026. What they did not give is the levels each tier unlocks at, so treat 40 and 60 as the habit of every previous version rather than as a fact about this one.

Is the mount really free?

Free with the training, yes. The old split — pay a trainer, then pay a vendor for the animal — is gone; Forever uses the Burning Crusade model where learning to ride hands you something to ride.

That does not make riding cheap. It makes the bill single and predictable, which is a different thing.

Why did Blizzard put the cost in training?

Their own reasoning, from the same interview: an expensive mount is an aspirational goal worth saving towards, and the game needs gold sinks. A sink takes gold out of the world for good, unlike a trade between players, which only moves it sideways.

For a fresh economy with no Token that matters more than usual: with nothing draining the currency, prices drift in one direction only.

How much is 1,000 gold in dollars?

At the cheapest rate on our board today, $660.00 — and that number has moved every day this month, which is the point of watching it rather than quoting it. The tracker shows what the market is doing.

Most people will farm it instead, and that is the honest answer for the majority: a thousand gold at level 60 is weeks of ordinary play, not an afternoon.
