The Addons That Touch Your Gold

Most addon lists are about combat. This one is about the handful that change what you earn: what is already flagged for Forever, which of them moves prices rather than saves clicks, and what the compatibility label is not telling you.

What is already flagged, and what that flag means

CurseForge, the main place addons are published, carries a Forever compatibility filter. Open it and the familiar names are there: Auctionator, Questie, Syndicator and Baganator for inventory, AtlasLootClassic, TomTom, RareScanner. A player on the official forum also reports Blackthorne's Farmer and Blackthorne's Tradeskills running on the beta, which is one person's experience rather than a test result.

The label is a claim, not a guarantee

Compatibility on CurseForge is set by the addon's own author. It means somebody intends their addon to work on Forever, not that Blizzard approved it or that anyone ran it on the build you are on. Treat the list as a shortlist to try, not as a support matrix.

How thoroughly that matters shows up in a contradiction we ran into while checking. A third-party addon catalogue still describes the Forever build of Auctionator as unfinished, while CurseForge lists it as ready. Both cannot be current. When two sources disagree about a tool you are about to build a trading week on, the cheap move is to install it and look.

The auction addon is the one that moves prices

Sort the money addons by how much they change and the list collapses to one. A gathering addon pays you once per route. A quest addon saves you a browser tab. An auction addon changes the price you get on every listing you post for the rest of the season, and it does the same for everybody else who installs it.

That second half is the part guides skip. A pricing tool does not make you richer in isolation, it makes undercutting cheap for the whole market. Somebody scanning for the lowest listing and posting a copper under it takes seconds, and the next person does the same to them. What begins as your advantage becomes the floor everybody trades at.

The beta is showing exactly that already. Players report ore and herbs collapsing on the auction house through mass undercutting, with the argument moving on to whether gathering is worth taking at all. That is happening on a test realm where not everybody has their addons set up yet, which tells you the behaviour is driven by people rather than by tooling. Tooling makes it faster.

It also changes how you should read a single scan. Prices measured in the middle of an undercut spiral are not the market, they are one afternoon of it, and the same loop looks completely different the next morning. This is the same reason the panel's own gold counters beat a one-off glance at a listing: your own record over a week outlives any snapshot.

The quiet ones that still pay

The rest of the money addons do not move the market, they remove friction. That is worth less, but it is worth something, and the effect is largest exactly where Forever is unfamiliar.

  • Quest helpers. Questie and its relatives put quest givers and objectives on the map, including the ones attached to dungeons. That matters in a way most people file under convenience rather than money: what a dungeon run actually pays is mostly its quest rewards, and a reward you can equip is a slot you never bought.
  • Gathering helpers. Route and node addons are the difference between riding a circuit and remembering one. With node competition inside your copy of the world already deciding your yield, spending less of the hour looking is the only part of that equation you control.
  • Bag and bank tools. Syndicator and Baganator search everything you own across characters. Unglamorous, and it stops you buying a reagent you already have on the alt you forgot about.
  • Loot tables. AtlasLoot tells you what drops where before you commit an evening to it, which is the cheapest way to avoid farming something that was never going to drop.

None of these decide a market. All of them shorten the gap between deciding to do something and doing it, and on a levelling character that gap is most of the evening.

What is missing and what nobody has said

Two gaps are worth naming plainly rather than filling with guesses.

The heavy trading suite is not on the Forever list we looked at. The large multi-addon trading packages that serious auction players use in retail did not appear among the Forever-flagged addons. That may change tomorrow, and it may reflect nothing more than an author who has not set a flag yet. What it does mean today is that anybody planning to trade on Forever should check which of their tools actually has a Forever build before they count on the workflow.

Nobody has said what the auction API will allow. Whether addons will be able to scan listings freely in Forever has not been answered. The argument is old and unsettled in retail, and Forever has not been addressed specifically. It matters more here than usual: a fresh economy where every price is machine-readable from day one converges faster than one where prices have to be read by hand, and which faucets and sinks exist is only half the picture if the other half is how quickly information travels.

Our reading: install the auction addon and a quest helper, skip the rest until you know what you actually do every evening. Addons are the cheapest thing in this game to add and the easiest to accumulate past the point where they help. And keep in mind that everything you set up on the beta goes away on 4 November along with the character, so treat this as choosing tools rather than building a setup.

Questions

Do addons work in WoW Forever?

Yes. CurseForge carries a Forever compatibility filter, and the list behind it grows every day. What it does not carry is a promise: the flag is set by each addon's author, not by Blizzard, so it means the author intends it to work rather than that anyone has tested it on your build.

Is Auctionator available for Forever?

It is flagged for Forever on CurseForge, near the top of the list by downloads. Treat that as the author's claim until you have it running. One third-party addon catalogue still describes the Forever port as unfinished, which is the sort of contradiction worth checking yourself before you plan a week of trading around it.

Which addon helps most with money?

The auction one, and it is not close. Everything else saves you time; an auction addon changes the price you get. A gathering or quest addon pays you once per route, a pricing tool pays you on every listing you post for the rest of the season.

Will Blizzard restrict what addons can read from the auction house?

Nobody has said. The question has been argued in retail for years and has never been settled for Forever specifically. It matters more here than usual, because a fresh economy with full scanning behaves differently from one where prices have to be read by hand.
