Craft Orders Without a Craft Order System

Half of what a profession can make never appears on the auction house, because it is work done on somebody else's materials. Forever has no interface for arranging that, so the whole layer runs on trade chat, guild rosters and a handful of third-party tools. This is how it is put together and what the crafter ends up being paid.

There is no order button, so the market is people

In modern retail a crafting order is an interface: you pick a crafter from a list, the game holds the materials, the work comes back by mail. Nothing of that kind has been described for Forever. What has been published about professions covers the recipe flood, camping objects from skill 20, blueprints dropped by dungeon bosses and the Legacy tree — an order system is not in it. Until somebody sees one in the client, plan for the Classic arrangement: you find a person, you stand next to them, you trade.

That turns a large part of every crafting profession into a service rather than a product. A weapon enchant lands on your own weapon. Plate armour is made for the character standing there. A bag, a set piece from a recipe nobody trains, a blueprint craft — none of it is stock that sits on a listing waiting for a buyer. The auction house prices goods. It has never priced labour, and it does not price it here.

The practical consequence is that this layer of the economy has no printed price at all. There is no history to read, no undercut to copy and no deposit to lose, which means both sides are guessing from the material cost upward. If you are the crafter, the arithmetic is the same one as everywhere else: run the craft or sell calculation on the materials first, and only then decide what the job is worth on top.

Where the requests actually get posted

Three places carry almost all of it, and they are not equally good. Trade chat in a capital city is the widest net and the shortest memory: a request scrolls away in minutes, so it is repeated, and the answer comes from whoever happens to be standing on the bank steps. The guild roster is the cheapest route and usually the fastest, because the alchemist and the cook in your raid are infrastructure rather than contractors, and because a guild profession list is the only searchable index of crafters most players have. A third-party board is the attempt to fix the memory problem: crafters register what they can make, buyers leave a request that survives being logged out.

Craftboard is the name being passed around for that last one in the current build — a board where a crafter lists recipes and a buyer posts what they need made. We have not tested it, and nothing has been published about which addon interfaces Forever exposes, so take the name as a pointer rather than a recommendation. The same caution we applied to discovery logs applies here: an addon that works in an older client is not evidence about this one. What the tool would be doing is bookkeeping, not magic, and the job can be done with a note file and a guild tab.

Two constraints sit under all three routes regardless of tooling. The trade itself is face to face and same-faction, so whoever answers has to be reachable by other players in your copy of the world before anything changes hands. And the crafter has to be at a trainer-taught or blueprint-taught recipe you actually need, which is why most requests end up naming the item rather than the profession. If you are setting up to take orders, the posting and pricing side belongs with the rest of the addons that touch your gold rather than with your raid tools.

What the crafter is paid, and by which convention

Two arrangements cover nearly every job, and it is worth naming which one you mean before the trade window opens. In the first, the buyer brings the materials and pays a tip for the work: the crafter contributes the recipe and the walk to the meeting point, nothing else. In the second, the crafter supplies everything and sells a finished item, in which case it is an ordinary sale that happens to be arranged by hand, and the price has to cover materials, time and whatever the auction house would have paid for the same stack raw.

The tip in the first arrangement is not paid for crafting time, which is a button press. It is paid for scarcity: a recipe learned from a trainer is worth very little as a service, because the next person in trade chat has it too, while a recipe that came off a dungeon boss has no competition at all. That is the part of Forever's design that matters most to this market — knowledge gated behind content instead of behind a trainer gives some crafters a position no amount of gold can copy. Whether blueprint goods can be traded at all has not been confirmed, so a blueprint craft may turn out to be a personal perk rather than a service.

The rest is housekeeping that prevents most of the bad evenings. Agree the full material list first, including any vendor reagent the recipe consumes, so the crafter is not standing in a bank paying for your component. Hand everything over in one trade rather than in instalments. Ask whether the item binds when it is made, because if it does, the crafter has to be standing next to you and cannot mail it afterwards. And remember where the coin in that tip came from: with no Token and no boosts, every payment in this market was farmed by somebody, which is the whole point of the faucets and sinks model.

What is not settled yet

This page describes a market that assembles itself out of habit and chat, and a fair amount of it is untested in Forever specifically. The honest list:

  • Whether Forever exposes the addon interfaces a board like craftboard would need, and whether that tool exists in the live build at all.
  • Whether blueprint crafts are tradeable. If they bind on pickup, the scarcest recipes stop being a service.
  • How the auction house is structured, which decides how much of the service market is simply people avoiding a fee.
  • Whether any order-style interface ships later. Nothing has been announced, and we are not going to guess at one.

None of those blanks stop you working today, because the fallback is the arrangement Classic ran on for years. They do mean you should confirm the mechanics on your own character before building a routine around them — in particular the binding behaviour of whatever you are commissioning, and whether the recipe's owner can reach you. For the supply side of the same question, which materials are cheap and which ones a crafter will actually ask you to bring, the detail sits with a crafting profession's recipe list. For whether the trip to the boss that drops the blueprint was worth the evening, the comparison is what a dungeon clear pays against the same hours spent on a route.

Questions

Is there a crafting order system in WoW Forever?

None has been announced. The published professions detail covers recipes, camping objects and blueprints, and says nothing about an interface for commissioning work, so the working assumption is the Classic arrangement: you arrange it by hand, you meet the crafter, you trade.

Do I bring the materials or does the crafter?

Usually you bring them and add a tip for the work, because that is the arrangement both sides can price without guessing. The alternative is buying a finished item from a crafter who supplied everything, which is an ordinary sale arranged by hand rather than a service, and it costs more for exactly that reason.

What is craftboard?

A third-party addon name being passed around for a board where crafters register recipes and buyers post requests. It is not an official feature, we have not tested it, and nothing has been published about which addon interfaces Forever exposes, so treat the name as a pointer and check it yourself before relying on it.

How do I find someone with a blueprint recipe?

Guild first, because a guild profession list is the only searchable index most players have, then trade chat in a capital, then whichever board your server has settled on. Expect the tip to be higher than for a trainer recipe, since the whole value of the job is that almost nobody else can do it.
